Mitchell: Home to Corn Palace and Indian Village
Mitchell, South Dakota—home of the World's Only Corn Palace—is also the home of the Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village. Located just off Interstate 90, the Indian Village entices visitors to imagine what it was like to live in a 1,000-year-old former plains village.
Background and History
The Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village is a six-acre site, overlooking the west bank of Lake Mitchell. It holds dual status as a National Register and National Historic Landmark site.
Board and Staff
The Indian Village operates under the direction of a talented volunteer board that includes a combination of Native and non-Native civic, business, and cultural leaders who make unique contributions to the success of the organization.
How We're Funded
The Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village is a nonprofit, 501 (c)(3) organization. Donations are tax deductible to fullest extent of the law. The Indian Village is primarily supported through membership, sponsorship, admission, gift-shop sales, and contributions from our generous individual and corporate donors. We have also received some federal, state, and private foundation funding. We have several ways that people can make a contribution. Each one provides unique benefits. View information on our website about how to make a contribution to the Indian Village. If you have questions, contact the village at 605-996-5473 or info@mitchellindianvillage.org.
